First week of the Training – Fifth day
On the fifth day, April 19, the facilitator from the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (CCOPAB), Lieutenant Godoi opened the activities giving a lecture on Legal Aspects of UN Peacekeeping Operations. After that, the instructors from the UN, LTC Khannu Rai (Nepalese Army) and Major Iova (Romanian Army) talked about UN Logistics at Work and Introduction to Integrated Mission Planning Process – IMPP, respectively.
The group is composed of 23 officers who come from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, United States, Guatemala, Paraguay and Uruguay. As they all have experience in peacekeeping missions, the objective of the course is to update these personnel concerning the UN training material (CPTM – Core Pre-deployment Training Material, and STM – Standardized Training Material) so they can:
a)Understand the system of the UN training cycle and the concept of training standards for military peacekeepers.
b)Apply the learning principles and techniques for adults when planning and carrying out the training.
c)Identify the connections among the several training modules.
d) Show competence when carrying out trainings based on interactive and innovative methodologies.
e)Analyze and evaluate the training modules.
Ending the first week of the course, the director of the UN Training of Trainers Course for Staff Officers in Brazil, LTC Asif Chaudhry, from the Pakistani Army, talked about his impressions: "I wish to express my deepest and most sincere gratitude and recognition to the support and assistance of the Brazilian Government in the organization of this course here in the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center. This kind of cooperation with Brazil in the training for Peacekeeping Operations is very significant to the UN. The outstanding planning for the conduction of the course has provided an extremely favorable environment for learning, and from which the participants are making the most of it. We hope that CCOPAB can serve the region and organize activities such as this in the future."
