The 8th Anniversary of CCOPAB and Closing Ceremony of a Course
Eight years ago, on the first day of March, the Brazilian Army Peacekeeping Operations Training Center [CIOpPaz, acronym in Portuguese] was created by means of the ordinance 090, 23 February 2005, of the Brazilian Army Commander.
As the participation of Brazil in this type of operation has increased, the Ministry of Defense decided to join the efforts of the three Brazilian Armed Forces and the Auxiliary Forces and, thus, establish the facilities of the so-called CIOpPaz as the base for the creation of a joint center, which would, in an integrated way, supply the needs of any citizen, either civil or military personnel, when they are designated to represent Brazil in a Peacekeeping Operation or Humanitarian Demining Mission.
The military organization CIOpPaz had, then, its designation altered by the ordinance nr 952, of 15 June 2010, of the Ministry of Defense, to the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center [CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese], remaining subordinate to the Command of the Brazilian Army, but still having a link to the Ministry of Defense. As its main mission, CCOPAB provides support for the preparation of Brazilian military, police and civil personnel and of those coming from friendly nations in order to be deployed in Peacekeeping Operations and Humanitarian Demining Missions.
On the first of March, a ceremony related to the 8th Anniversary of the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center was carried out by the Center. On that opportunity, Colonel Baganha handed certificates of CCOPAB's friend to the following collaborators: Najla Nassif Palma, Military Prosecutor; Mr. Mário César Cabral Marques and Ms. Patrícia Civelli, Memória Civelli Cultural Productions; and Flávia Mello de Lima, Journalist. The event also counted on the presence of representatives of the Brazilian Former Combatants Association [FAIBRAS, acronym in Portuguese] and of members of the Suez Battalion Association.
The ceremony enriched the end of the Course for Subunit Commanders and Platoon Leaders 2013/1. The aforementioned course was completed by Captains and Lieutenants who will be members of the 18th Brazilian Contingent in MINUSTAH.
