Beginning of the Course for Military Translators and Interpreters 2013
February 04 was the starting day of the Course for Military Translators and Interpreters (acronym in Portuguese: ETIMil) at the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (acronym in Portuguese: CCOPAB). After the welcoming lecture by the Commander of CCOPAB, COL Luiz Fernando Estorilho Baganha, the apprentices attended the opening class by the Counselor of the Embassy of Haiti in Brazil, Mr. Jackson Bien Aimé.
The course counts on the participation of 13 apprentices, 06 military instructors and 02 civilian professors. The apprentices will join the Brazilian Battalion (BRABAT) and the Brazilian Engineering Company (BRAENGCOY) of the 18th Brazilian Contingent in Haiti.
In the afternoon, the apprentices were divided in two classes according to the focused language: English and French. The English class attended instructions which dealt with specific issues of translating and interpreting in/to English and Portuguese, as well as translation tools (CAT, MT, TM etc.). The French class attended instructions concerning principles of translation, study cases and translation tools.
