Rio de Janeiro (RJ) – On 12 January 2023, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB) held a ceremony in honor of the Brazilians who lost their lives as a result of the earthquake of 12 January 2010, in Port-au-Prince, capital of Haiti, while they were deployed to the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
The activity was carried out at the Haiti Memorial, a monument that honors the Brazilian blue helmets who fell down in the earthquake. During the activity, there was a nominal call of the deceased Brazilians, followed by a bugle call (taps) and a wreath-laying ceremony at the Memorial.
At that time, 18 Brazilian Army soldiers, a Brazilian police officer from the Federal District, two UN civilian members and Zilda Arns (a Brazilian doctor) lost their lives.
