Brasília - From March 28 to April 7, 2022, a team of instructors from the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese) participated in Exercise VIKING 22, the largest multi-functional exercise of peace operations in the world, involving 1750 people, among military, police and civilians, from more than 40 countries.
Exercise VIKING 22 was carried out simultaneously in five countries - Brazil, Sweden, Bulgaria, Finland, and Qatar - and was marked by training, cooperation, integration, and interoperability among the Brazilian Armed Forces, police, and civilians, and representatives of the other participating countries. In the Brazilian Site, there were 276 participants, 179 of whom were directly connected to the Exercise, working in an integrated manner to come up with solutions to complex problems, in a fictitious scenario, with situations similar to those that occur in real peace missions. Additionally, there were 97 people working in direct support, ensuring the full operation of the schedule planned for the training.
In this 9th edition of Exercise Viking, Brazil was, for the second time, the only remote site in the Americas. Military personnel from nine member countries of the Latin American Association of Peace Operations Training Centers (ALCOPAZ) - Brazil, Uruguay, Guatemala, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador and Mexico - participated in the training, in Site Brazil, in addition to members of the Brazilian Peace Operation Research Network (REBRAPAZ), UN Brazil, Ghana, France and Sweden.
The team from CCOPAB integrated the Operational Management of the Exercise in Site Brazil, as part of the Observation, Training and Mentoring (OTM) cell, and was reinforced by military personnel from the Eastern Training Center and from units of Brasília. Moreover, Major Rodrigo Berbert Eiras, Chief of the Education and Training Division of CCOPAB integrated the general Operational Management team in Sweden.
