Rio de Janeiro (RJ) – From 20 September to 08 October 2021, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center — Sergio Vieira de Mello Center —, a Brazilian Army training center subordinated to the Department of Military Technical Education (DETMIL, acronym in Portuguese), finished the High Intensity Language Training 2021.2, as part of UNSO, UNMO and UNPOL courses (EPMP, acronym in Portuguese).
Organized in blocks of linguistic knowledge — grammatical structure, lexical building (vocabulary), oral production and written production — CCOPAB members together with guest instructors used the methodology named High Intensity Language Training (HILT) to deliver English lessons in the course.
Twenty-eight military students completed the linguistic phase: 16 from the Brazilian Army, four from the Brazilian Air Force, three from the Brazilian Navy, as well as five State Police representatives.
The next phase of EPMP 2021.2, from 13 October to 12 November, will deal with United Nations (UN) doctrine concepts, so to prepare military and police personnel to perform functions related to UN Peace Operations.
Presumably, the military personnel will be deployed to the following UN missions:
- United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA);
- United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO);
- United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO);
- United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS);
- United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL); and
- United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).
Psychologists from the Brazilian Army Applied Psychology Center (CPAEx) also accompanied students during the HILT 2021.2.
