CCOPAB participates in virtual seminar conducted by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation
Rio de Janeiro. On October 5, 2021, instructors from the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center, Sergio Vieira de Mello Center - a Brazilian Army training center subordinate to the Board of Technical Military Education (DETMIL, acroym in Portuguese), participated, in a virtual seminar conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE, acronym in Portuguese) and Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation.
The seminar, whose theme was "Brazil in the United Nations Security Council 2022-2023", aimed to "deepen the debate about Brazil's participation in the UN Security Council and the priorities for the mandate that will begin on January 1, 2022".
With the participation of national and international authorities, panelists and lecturers addressed the following topics:
- "Brazil in the United Nations Security Council 2022-2023: principles and priorities";
- "Current trends and dynamics in the Security Council";
- "Experiences of the GRULAC countries (Group of Latin American and Caribbean Countries)"; and
- Brazil's Contributions to UN Peace Missions".
Concluding the activity, the MRE released the website on "Brazil in the United Nations Security Council 2022-2023" (https://www.gov.br/mre/pt-br/Brasil-CSNU).
This will be the eleventh time Brazil occupies a seat in the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member, seeking in the next biennium to guide discussions and debates on the following subjects (among others): conflict prevention and pacification; mediation and preventive diplomacy; humanitarian responses and Human Rights protection; advancement of the Women, Peace and Security agenda; and coordination of the Peacebuilding Commission.
