CCOPAB welcomes GEN Walter Souza BRAGA NETTO - Defense Minister, GEN PAULO SÉRGIO Nogueira de Oliveira - Brazilian Army Commander, and a distinguished entourage
Rio de Janeiro (RJ). On 03 August 2021, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB), Sergio Vieira de Mello Center - a Brazilian Army Educational Organization - welcomed GEN Walter Souza BRAGA NETTO, Defense Minister; GEN PAULO SÉRGIO Nogueira de Oliveira, Brazilian Army Commander; and a distinguished entourage.
After military honors, CCOPAB commander delivered a lecture on the mission, features and capabilities of the peace mission and humanitarian demining Training Center.
Still, the Defense Minister and the Army Commander, along with their entourage, visited the facilities of the Joint Center such as the language laboratory, classrooms and educational areas, and the monuments in memory of fallen Brazilians when in peace missions, especially during the earthquake in Haiti (2010).
The entourage of the Defense Minister and the Army Commander comprised the following authorities:
- General JOSÉ EDUARDO Pereira, Eastern Military Commander;
- General André Luis NOVAES Miranda - Chief of the Army Department of Education and Culture;
- Lieutenant General Kleber Nunes de VASCONCELLOS, Commander of the 1st Army Division and Garrison of Vila Militar;
- Lieutenant General (Air Force) Vincent DANG - Chief of Military Special Advisory of the MoD;
- Lieutenant General Josias PEDROTTI da Rosa, from the MoD.
- Vice Admiral Pedro Luiz Gueiros TAULOIS, from the MoD; and
- Major General Alexandre Oliveira CANTANHEDE Lago - Director of Military Technical Education.
Due to Ordinance No. 952- MoD, of 15 June 2010, the then Brazilan Army Peacekeeping Training Center (CIOPPAZ) was designated as a reference military unit, within the ambit of the Ministry of Defense, to prepare civilian and military personnel, from Brazil and friendly nations, to be deployed to peace missions of different characteristics or to humanitarian demining missions; thus, altering its name to Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB), remaining under the responsibility of the Brazilian Army, but linked to the Ministry of Defense.
As of 2010, the strength of CCOPAB comprises military personnel from the three Armed Forces, from State Police departments, as well as civilians and foreign military instructors.
GEN BRAGA NETTO is a former peacekeeper who has been deployed to East Timor as a Senior Regional Military Observer in the United Nations Transitional Authority in East Timor (SRMO-UNTAET).
