CCOPAB carries out CIMIC for cadets and undergraduates

Rio de Janeiro (RJ) – From August 5th to 9th, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center – Sergio Vieira de Mello Center – carried out Civil-Military Coordination Course (CIMIC). This activity aimed at the target audience of the 4th year cadets from the Agulhas Negras Military Academy (AMAN, acronym in Portuguese), as well as cadets from the State Police and undergraduate students from universities that are members of the Brazilian Research Network on Peace Operations (REBRAPAZ, acronym in Portuguese).

The aim of the course was to train military personnel, police officers and civilians, to perform functions regarding the UN System of Civil Affair, focusing on Civil-Military Coordination.

The course enabled the integration and exchange of experiences among the 38 (thirty-eight) students, who were arranged like this: 19 (nineteen) cadets from the Brazilian Army, 2 (two) cadets from Namibia, 1 (one) cadet from Paraguay, 1 (one) cadet from Guyana, 3 (three) cadets of the State Police from Maranhão, 1 (one) cadet of the State Police from Paraíba, 3 (three) cadets of the State Police from São Paulo. Besides that, there were also 8 (eight) civilians of the following institutions:

2 (two) from the Brazilian Institute of Medicine and Rehabilitation (IBMR, acronym in Portuguese).

2 (two) from Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC, acronym in Portuguese)

2 (two) from State University of São Paulo (UNESP, acronym in Portuguese).

2 (two) from Curitiba University Center (UNICURITIBA, acronym in Portuguese).

The following military and civilian instructors participated as guests: COL HÉLIO TENÓRIO DOS SANTOS and MAJ FERNANDA SANTOS PEREIRA DA SILVA, both police officers from São Paulo State; 1st LT THIAGO DE LIMA LOBATO, from the 5th Light Infantry Battalion; 1st Sgt GEISON COSTA DOS SANTOS, from 30th Mechanized Infantry Battalion; and Mr. JOSUÉ CARLOS SOUZA DOS SANTOS, Assistant to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (ACNUR, acronym in Portuguese) in Acolhida Operation.

With group discussions and practical exercises in English, the students had the opportunity to interact with a diverse environment, which is very similar to the multidimensionality that is characteristic of peace operations. In the end, the

students were awarded the diploma of completion obtained by those who successfully completed the course.
