UK Ambassador visits CCOPAB
Rio de Janeiro - On November 21, The United Kingdom Ambassador in Brazil, Mr. Vijay Rangarajan, visited the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese). His delegation was composed of Mr. Simon Wood, UK General Consul in Rio de Janeiro; Captain (Navy) Kevin Fleming, Military Defense Attaché of the United Kingdom in Brazil; Mrs. Caitlin Smith, Second Secretary and Mrs. Cecília Bijos, Assistant of the Military Defense Attaché.
The delegation was hosted by Colonel Machado, CCOPAB’s Commander, and by other officers. The aim of the visit was to strengthen the bonds between Brazil and UK. After attending the institutional lecture, when the visitors learned about the activities carried out by the Joint Center, they visited some facilities, such as Delta Camp, as well as Haiti Memorial, a monument honoring the victims of the 2010 earthquake in that country.
Following, the delegation visited Colonel Ururahy Training Area (AICUr, acronym in Portuguese), where students from the Experts on Mission Course were participating in the Green Week, the final exercise. In this exercise, the future Military Observers and United Nations Police face simulations of probable scenarios they will have to deal with in peace operations. The visit ended with exchange of institutional souvenirs and the signing of CCOPAB’s book of honor
