CCOPAB carries out the Advanced Field Exercise for the Mil Pol Coy in accordance with UNPCRS

From 15 to 18 October, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB) coordinated the Pre-deployment Advanced Field Exercise (EAOP, acronym in Portuguese), whose main goal was to train the Brazilian Army Police Company as part of the United Nations Peacekeeping Capabilities Readiness System (UNPCRS). COL Menezes Melo, from the Peace Missions Divison of the Land Operations Command (COTER, acronym in Portuguese), highlighted that UN has requested Brazil to assess the possibility of being deployed as a TCC in Peace Missions. Therefore, the Army has offered one Infantry Battalion, one Military Police Company, one Engineering Company and a Hospital level II. Nowadays, we are providing training for the Mil Pol Coy.

The purpose of the exercise is to provide the company with practice, regarding what is in the Core Pre-deployment Training Material (CPTM) - a basic training module for all blue helmets who are to take part in UN peace missions.
CPTM encompasses subjects as UN legal framework; human rights; child protection; women, peace and security; SEA; environment; logistics and rules of engagement.

Apart from the previously planned activities, there are also fictitious situations that a Mil Pol Coy might face: checkpoint, convoy escort, VIP escort, environmental inspection, patrols and the like. These situations are essential to train the Mil Pol Coy cells and operational systems, once they simulate an operational environment in which troops will be deployed. The focus of the Pre-deployment advanced field exercise is to provide troops with UN-like incidents; the so-called “blue concept” - said COL Machado, CCOPAB commander.

On Thursday morning, 18 October, a parade was carried out at the Mil Pol Coy base. CCOPAB carried out the After Action Review (AAR) of the Pre-deployment Advanced Field Exercise; at the end, the training was certified as per the standards set by UN DPKO. In order to come up with such an exercise, CCOPAB mobilized 93 soldiers - 29 (DirEx), 07 (incident observers and controllers), 37 (role players), 16 (security personnel) and 04 (medical team).

What is UNPCRS?

In the UNPCRS, UN member states offer troops and specialized personnel to be timely deployed in peacekeeping missions under the aegis of the United Nations. The system aims to establish a more predictable and dynamic process of interaction between the UN Headquarters and Member States for strengthening readiness and timely deployment of peacekeeping capabilities with the right qualities.
