CCOPAB trains Brazilian Air Force members for peace missions

Santa Maria (Rio Grande do Sul) – Between August 06 and 17, a Mobile Training Team from the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese) was deployed to Santa Maria, a Brazilian southern city, in order to carry out Training Instructions for Air Units, which are available for the United Nations Peacekeeping Capabilities Readiness System (UNPCRS).

CCOPAB’s Deputy Commander, Brazilian Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Ayres, was the general coordinator of the mission and stated that the 5th Squadron of the 8th Aviation Group, unit that operates H-60 Blackwawks, learned the concepts of UN doctrine well.

One of the objectives of the training was to present the Core Pre-Deployment Training Materials (CPTM) and the Specialized Training Materials (STM) by means of case studies and presentations of the work groups that represented the Commander of the Unit and their assistants.

Forty-eight students of CPTM and twelve of STM participated in the training and all of them were designated by the Command of the Brazilian Air Force.

During the training, there were videoconferences with many experienced Brazilian and foreign instructors in the use of air means in peace missions. Besides that, the Military Advisor of the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the United Nations, General Gerson Menandro Garcia de Freitas and his assistant, (Air Force) Colonel Antonio Luiz Godoy Soares Mioni Rodrigues, participated in the training by videoconference.
