CCOPAB prepares military personnel for Humanitarian Demining missions

Training Brazilian and Friendly Nations military personnel to be deployed as Monitors or Supervisors in Humanitarian Demining missions under the aegis of international organizations was the goal of the Course which the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese) carried out. After a five week period of theoretical and practical activities, the 2017 Course on Humanitarian Demining finished on July 14.

The first two weeks of the Course – held in Spanish - were on an E-learning basis, followed by three other in-class weeks. During the E-learning phase, CCOPAB approached topics such as: the world scenario of countermine actions; missions and programs under the aegis of international organizations; Mine Risk Education (MRE); and assistance to victims.

During the in-class phase, the students had the chance to learn and practice contents related to operational application and management of a Humanitarian Demining Organization, procedures regarding neutralization and destruction of mines and explosive devices. Besides, they were also given the opportunity to go over topics concerning planning and Humanitarian Demining activities for monitors and supervisors.

Twenty-six Army members finished the Course, out of which 20 were from Brazil, 3 from Colombia, 2 from Paraguay and one from Argentina.
