CCOPAB and Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro start innovative parternship

Since last March 6, Foreign Relations researchers from the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC/RJ, acronym in Portuguese), have visited the facilities of the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese). The aim is to build an important alliance between CCOPAB and the Foreign Relations Department from the Catholic University. The Doctrine, Assessment and Coordination Divisions, main agents of the preparation of military personnel for peace missions, will work along with the researchers for about a year. The work group from the Catholic University is composed by five senior Foreign Relations undergraduate students, who will be tutored by the PhD Professors Maíra Siman Gomes, Danilo Marcondes de Souza Neto and Ricardo Oliveira dos Santos, all from the aforementioned university. Allowing the researchers to align the subject “Peace Operations” with the research lines of the Foreign Relations Department of the Catholic University is the main goal of this partnership.

The alliance between CCOPAB and PUC/RJ was made possible in June of 2016. Due to the establishment of the Brazilian Network of Research on Peace Operations (REBRAPAZ, acronym in Portuguese) in November, whose main objective is to coordinate the production and spreading of critical, relevant and update knowledge on peacekeeping operations, new common projects have arisen, such as the one that has been implemented.

Since October of 2016, CCOPAB, through the resolution no. 1393 issued by the Office of the Brazilian Army Commander, has been considered a Research Institute.
