II Workshop on Humanitarian Demining
In the period from 08 to 10 of May, 2012, the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (acronym in Portuguese: CCOPAB) hosted the II Workshop on Humanitarian Demining. The workshop´s objective was to update the knowledge of the instructors serving at the Center and establish the necessary level of expertise in explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) so that international monitors or supervisors can do their tasks concerning Humanitarian Demining in a more appropriate way.
The activity counted on the presence of several experts in Humanitarian Demining and in Explosive Ordnance Disposal techniques, among officers and non-commissioned officers from the Brazilian Navy and the Brazilian Army. These experts have massive experience in Humanitarian Demining which they gathered during their participations in several HD programs. The presences of Marines Captain NORMANDO Bona do Nascimento and Engineering Colonel Ryuzo IKEDA must be highlighted: the former participated in the Assistance Mission for Mine Clearance in Central America (MARMINCA) and in the Group of International Monitors of Colombia (acronym in Portuguese: GMI-CO), and the latter participated in MARMINCA and in the Assistance Mission for Mine Clearance in South America (MARMINAS).
During the workshop there were several videoconferences with the chiefs of the Mine Action missions which have the participation of Brazilian military personnel.
