A New Time for Social Communication in the Armed Forces

Project and preserve the image of the institution is everybody’s responsibility. This was the relevant lesson which involved more than 40 class periods in the Social Communication Course – Brazil 2011 (CCS Brazil), carried out by the Brazilian Air Force from November 20 to 25 in Salvador – BA.

Two military personnel from the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (CCOPAB), LTC Salomão, chief of the Doctrine Division and Sgt Alexandre, from the Social Communication Division, took part in the CCS Brazil. For the first time, the course was given to COs and NCOs. It was organized by the Air Force Social Communication Center (CECOMSAER),and it took place in the Air Force Military Center for Conventions and Lodging (CEMCOHA). The course gathered 119 participants: Officers, NCOs and Civil servants from the Navy, Brazilian Army, Brazilian Air Force, Fire Department from Distrito Federal, Civil Aviation Secretariat and Infraero.

There were also lecturers who brought in their different experiences, such as José Raimundo, a journalist from TV Globo Channel, author of reports from all over Brazil on environmental, Armed Forces and culture issues. There were also lectures given by the Infraero Communication Superintendent, Léa Cavallero, the journalist and professor, Luiz Cláudio Ferreira, and the Air Force Finance Secretary, General (Air Force) Aprígio Azevedo who talked about the importance of social communication for the Air Force High Command.

Among the themes such as the role of the information at peace and war, publicity and advertising, public relations, social media, organization of events, news production, press advisory and crisis management, the final recommendation was highlighted “ It is through this capacity building that the communication links can transmit the real role of the Armed Forces, projecting a consistent and consolidated image of what we do for the Brazilian society”.
