CCOPAB promotes another edition of the Course for Journalists in Conflict Areas
Integration!! This is the word that best defines the heterogeneous group who concluded the 4th edition of the Course for Journalists in Conflict Areas at the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (CCOPAB) from May 23 to 27, 2011. This group consisted of 06 military personnel (02 from the Brazilian Navy and 04 from the Brazilian Army), 28 known journalists and young people who have recently graduated, from different media (newspapers – o Estado de São Paulo, Folha de São Paulo, Extra, Diário Popular – magazines - Revista Piauí, Veja – TV channels - Rede TV, Rede Globo, TV Band, TV Record and TV Tribuna).
The aim of the course was to give knowledge to the journalists to carry out their functions with security and efficiency, in armed conflict situations and in peace missions under the aegis of the UN.
For the first time, this edition shows the three Armed Forces in joint action, with activities at Military Unities of the Armed Forces and of the Fire Department from Rio de Janeiro. Several theoretical and practical instructions, such as the Social Communication Center of the Army, UN Public Information, firefighting, sea survival, International Humanitarian Law, Air Disasters, Communication and Negotiation (crisis, kidnapping and hostage), among others, were given.
The participants also had the opportunity to watch a demonstration of members from the Special Operations Instruction Center brightening the practical instructions.
Remarks made by some of the participating journalists
The Course for Journalists in Conflict Areas fills in an important gap when sending journalists to crisis situations since it brings together theory and practice, professionalism and experience, integration and commitment. I recommend the course to all professionals in this area due to its dynamics and capacity for sharing knowledge. One cannot question how much better we came out of the course. Congratulations to all the members from CCOPAB.

It was a week in which we could improve in all senses. We all ended up longing to do journalism in conflict areas. At the end, I found out the second reason why God gathered those people there, regardless of any other thing; we all have a huge heart, capable of making the difference and willing to make it.
We certainly miss you already, you were simply perfect!
I wish you all my gratitude, forever!

The 4th edition of the Course for Journalists in Conflict areas was a unique experience in all ambits of my life. With a completely solid and consistent structure, it added lots of knowledge to all the participants, both students and the organizers themselves. In short, I praise CCOPAB and all its organization and I would like to say the tremendous size of credibility and trust in the Armed Forces and its partnership with the media. I sincerely thank you.
