Joint Staff Officer entourage from Armed Forces visits CCOPAB

Rio de Janeiro (RJ) – On 15 May, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Center, Sergio Vieira de Mello Center, received the Joint Staff Officer entourage from Armed Forces. The aim of this visit was to know the structure and the capabilities of CCOPAB. The entourage was lead by BRIG GEN (Air Force) Raul Botelho, Chief of Joint Staff Officer from Armed Forces (CEMCFA, acronym in Portuguese), who was followed by such authorities from CEMFA: GEN (Army) Laerte de Souza Santos, Chief of Logistics; GEN Rolemberg Ferreira da Cunha, Sub-chief of Peacekeeping Operations; MAJ BRIG (Air Force) Maurício Augusto Silveira de Medeiros, Cabinet Chief of CEMCFA; COL Fernando César Hernandes, Manager of Section of Following and Studies; COL José Roberto Soares Paes, Manager of Section of Operational Employment; LT COL Daniel Coutinho e Souza, Chief Assistant of Logistics; and CT Vitor Borges Pedrosa, Assistant of Orders of CEMCFA.

The following Army Official-Generals also took part in that event: GEN Ex Júlio Cesar Arruda, Eastern Military Commander; LTG William Georges Felippe Abrahão, Commander of the First Army Division; LTG Jorge Cardoso Martins, fifth Sub-chief of the Army Staff Officer; LTG Kleber Nunes de Vasconcellos, Chief of Peace Mission, Aviation and IGPM from Land Operation Command; GEN Bda Pedro Celso Coelho Montenegro, Commander of the Parachute Infantry Brigade; and GEN Bda Otávio Rodrigues de Miranda Filho, Commander of the School Grouping of the 9th Motorized Infantry Brigade.

After the honors of reception, the presentation of Officers to the BG Botelho took place at Noble Room. Then COL Marco Antônio Estevão Machado, CCOPAB’s commander, carried out an institutional overview of the Center, highlighting its contribution to the Defense Ministry regarding the preparation of Brazilian blue helmets for PKOs. Next a video conference was carried out with COL Baddy Mitre, a Brazilian Military Observer deployed to AWIL, Southern Sudan, as well as a visit to the following facilities: combat simulator (Training System of Legal Force Use), French Lab, Haiti Memorial, a tribute to those who died in the earthquake that hit that country in 2010, and the Delta Camp, where the Staff Officer Course took place.

Following the event schedule, the entourage moved to the area of the Instruction Camp at Gericinó (CIG, acronym in Portuguese), where it could be noticed the performance of the military personnel, who are taking the Military Experts on Mission Course.

The visit came to an end with a lunch, a moment in which BG Botelho signed CCOPAB book of honor and he also received an institutional token of the Center.
