CCOPAB prepares Subunits Commanders and Platoon Leaders for the 26th Brazilian Contingent

The Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB), a military unit whose mission is to support the preparation of military and police personnel as well as civilians for peace missions, carried out the Course for Subunit Commanders and Platoon Leaders (EPCOSUPEL) for the 26th Brazilian Contingent in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). The course aims to prepare military personnel from the Brazilian Armed Forces to employ the subunits and marine platoons, the mechanized cavalry squadron, the marines company and the engineering company, and that will sharpen their skills in training Sergeants, Corporals and Privates.

The course, which was carried out from February 6 to 17, was intense and comprised theoretical and practical instructions regarding the UN Core Pre Deployment Training Materials (CPTM) as well as topics related to tactics, techniques and procedures to be followed in Haiti, emphasizing the rules of engagement and exploitation of the terrain.

An interdisciplinary exercise was the end of the Course. During this activity, the trainees had the opportunity to practice the simulated problems, which portray the current situation in Haiti in a peacekeeping mission context. “The Course was rewarding as we could see how the Peace Force is employed and it was also very profitable as we will be able to convey what we learned here to Privates, Corporals and Sergeants”, said Captain Ramiro Alves Branco Lobo de Almeida, one of the trainees of EPCOSUPEL and who was designated to be deputy commander of the Peace Force Company of the 26th Brazilian Contingent.

This Brazilian Contingent for the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti is supposed to be deployed in the first semester of 2017.
